Plastic cling wrap and sandwich bags, which are non recyclable and head to landfill after one or a few uses.
Chemical components are known to migrate from plastic packaging to foods. The potential health effects are gaining attention but remain in question.
Use your hands to mold the wrap to the shape of any food item or container. The wrap is naturally sticky and will adhere to itself.
To create a snack bag first fold the wrap in half. On the open short edge of the wrap, press the two sides together and fold about half an inch wide towards the centre of the wrap and press. Repeat and press. Repeat on the opposite open side of the wrap. You now have one folded side, two pressed sides and an open side forming a snack bag! fill and repeat the fold and press technique to secure.
Rinse in cold water and apply soap sparingly as needed. Pat or air dry. Wash using your hand or a gentle sponge. Pat or air dry.
Do not soak as this will soften the wax leaving it vulnerable to separation from the cotton. Do not scrub, scrape as this will remove the wax coating.
Do not expose to heat (warm water, warm food, ovens, microwaves, hot cars) as this will melt the wax coating.
